What’s in a Name?
What’s in a Name…and Logo?
Some may find it peculiar for a media company to have two references—one in the name and one in the logo—to a penguin, of all animals. While many production companies choose to reference personal names or media industry-related jargon, Waddle Lifestyle Media takes a differing approach: one that aligns with our mission of celebrating and capturing individuality.
Throughout his childhood, Waddle Lifestyle Media founder Austin Oliver always found penguins to be one of his favorite animals. Between their mannerisms and ‘fancy’ color schemes—often resembling dress attire—Austin found them to be very interesting creatures…so much so that some of his assorted online accounts started to feature the name “Waddle” within them, as a reference to penguins’ tendency to waddle while walking. Eventually, with the creation of Austin’s first photography Instagram account named “waddle_spots,” a nickname was unexpectedly born. Today, the name “Waddle” has become nearly synonymous with “Austin” amongst those he knows in the car and photography community, with some even preferring to call him “Waddle” as opposed to his actual name.
Yet, the motivation for the penguin theme continues deeper. Penguins, due to their aforementioned ‘fancy’ color schemes, are referenced to imply an image of luxury. A famous hotel in Miami Beach, a luxury clothing brand, and even the prestigious watchmaker Rolex either currently or have previously associated with penguins. Thus, Waddle Lifestyle Media chooses to employ the penguin image due to the lifestyle elements we capture, as high-end vehicles, real estate, and other assets match the vibe of luxury. Combining this high-end association with nickname individuality therefore led to the formulation of the “Waddle Lifestyle Media” name.
